Scenario: SOLDIER as server, BIKER as client, ARP as intermediate router. 802.11b ad hoc wireless network between BIKER and ARP, Ethernet 100Mbps network between ARP and SOLDIER. Messages of 500 bytes.
Wireless points were purposedly far away to create a poor, lossy communication channel. Measured raw total throughput was only 3Mbps, what means 1.5Mbps per direction if there is traffic in both directions: 802.11 networks are not full-duplex.
Protocol | Throughput (kbps) | Latency (µs) |
---|---|---|
TCPM | 1221 | 6392,5 |
SCTP | 916 | 7829,0 |
Presented to a lossy network, SCTP performance was hurt because of the high default RTO.
